In memory of its founder and chief organizer for the last 35 years, this event has been renamed as the 36th Joseph M. Sulock Memorial Economics Crystal Ball Seminar. Dr. Joseph Sulock, Professor Emeritus of Economics, impacted the lives of hundreds of UNC Asheville students and Asheville community members. To honor the impact that Dr. Sulock had on so many in the community, alumni and friends have also come together to establish the Dr. Joseph M. Sulock Economics Scholarship, which supports economics students at UNC Asheville.

Noted economist David W. Berson will return to make forecasts on the business and financial outlook for the coming year, taking account of new stimulus policies and Federal Reserve decisions about interest rates.

The seminar is sponsored by the UNC Asheville Department of Economics and Parsec Financial. The speakers will present at 7 p.m., and a question-and-answer period will follow at 8 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public. This community event will include the in memoriam for, and information about, the Dr. Joseph M. Sulock Economics Scholarship, which benefits economics students as UNC Asheville.

The economic outlook portion of the program will focus on inflation, employment, interest rates, the strength of the dollar and housing market. The financial outlook presentation will explore the implications of Federal Reserve policy for financial markets. Various investments will be addressed, with an emphasis on interest rates and the bond market.

Dr. Berson is senior vice president and chief economist for Nationwide Insurance, where his responsibilities involve leading a team of economists who act as internal consultants to the company’s business units. Berson’s numerous previous professional positions include vice president and chief economist at Fannie Mae, president and fellow of the National Association for Business Economics, and a senior management position with Wharton Econometrics Forecasting.

Admission is free. Advance registration is required and can be completed at this link. For more information, or to make a tax-deductible donation to the Dr. Joseph M.
