Why Study Economics?

As a discipline, economics blends quantitative skills and logical rigor with historical and institutional analysis in considering a broad range of social and policy issues. UNC Asheville’s Economics Department is dedicated to close student-faculty interaction in and out of the classroom and to helping our students achieve their educational and career objectives. All of our students undertake research projects, some of which have been published in professional journals, in close collaboration with members of the faculty.

After Graduation

Our graduates are highly regarded and have pursued a wide range of careers in the financial sector, manufacturing and small business, the non-profit sector, and state, local and federal government. Wachovia, the Nature Conservancy, Daewoo, Merrill Lynch, The Research Triangle Institute, AT&T, AmeriCorps, the US Department of Commerce and the state of North Carolina are just a few of the organizations that have hired our graduates. Many of our graduates have gone on to graduate school in economics and professional school in business and law. Top schools at which our recent graduates have excelled include Duke, American, Clark, Villanova, Vanderbilt, California-Davis, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington. In addition, the department has sent many students to UNC-Greensboro’s highly regarded terminal Master’s program in Economics.

Library Resources
